Disaster Recovery as a Service

Automated failover, tested quarterly, with sub-one-hour recovery time

What it is

Disaster recovery is the service most organisations hope they never need and discover too late that they did not have properly in place.

CMTG’s DRaaS provides automated failover between CMTG’s two geographically distinct WA data centres, orchestrated rollback when the primary site is restored, and a tested, validated recovery capability with a sub-one-hour Recovery Time Objective. The distinction between CMTG’s DR capability and a backup-and-restore arrangement is significant: DRaaS is designed for rapid, automated recovery of the entire operating environment, not manual restoration of individual files or systems.

What's Included?

Automated failover

Automated detection of site failure and failover to the secondary data centre over private dark fibre. Orchestrated by VMware Site Recovery Manager for reliable, consistent recovery sequencing

Sub-1-hour RTO

Recovery Time Objective of less than one hour between sites. The environment is available and operational within the hour of a declared disaster event

Sub-15-minute RPO

Recovery Point Objective of less than 15 minutes, based on the immutable snapshot frequency maintained by IBM Safeguarded Copy during business hours

Quarterly DR testing

Formal, documented DR test conducted every quarter. Results reported to the client with any remediation actions identified and tracked to completion

Orchestrated rollback

When the primary site is restored, workloads are migrated back in a controlled, orchestrated sequence to minimise operational disruption

Pay-as-you-use model

DR capacity is available without requiring a full duplicate infrastructure investment. Clients pay for the recovery capability rather than maintaining idle standby hardware

Business continuity planning

CMTG works with clients to develop and document the business continuity and DR runbook appropriate to their environment and recovery requirements

Cloud-native failover for hosted clients

For organisations hosted on CMTG's private cloud platform, failover is entirely within the CMTG infrastructure. No dependency on external providers or public cloud for recovery

Why CMTG for this service

Most DR arrangements are either untested or have not been tested recently enough to be reliable. CMTG tests quarterly, documents the results, and reports them to the client. The IBM Safeguarded Copy architecture underlying the recovery capability creates application-aware immutable copies that cannot be corrupted or deleted, meaning the clean state being recovered to is verified rather than assumed.
