Dozens of young and upcoming basketballers took to the courts in Perth to learn how to dunk and dribble from two Perth Wildcats players, at a specialised clinic delivered by local IT solutions provider CMTG.
CMTG-sponsored Wildcats player David Okwera and teammate Michael Harris ran a session at Morley Basketball Stadium last week, teaching kids between 10 and 12 years old some tips and tricks on the court.
As a former basketballer himself and now Head Coach for the East Perth Eagles’ NBL1 Men’s Team, CMTG Managing Director Carl Filpo said the clinic was a great opportunity to give back to a grassroot sport club.
“Basketball has been a big part of my life since I was young so to have an opportunity through CMTG to support these kids from the club I grew up with, is very special,” Carl said.
“It’s important to CMTG as a local Perth-headquartered business to help kids from our local community to get out on the court or the field and get involved with a local sporting club.
“We know kids learn critical life skills, build resilience, and develop more confidence when they’re part of a sporting team, so we’re proud to do our bit to encourage participation by organising clinics like this.
“It was fantastic to see this group of young East Perth Eagles players meet their sporting heroes and watch David and Michael inspire this next generation of basketballers.”
CMTG has been a partner of the Perth Wildcats for nearly 15 years, supporting the West Australian team through the trials and tribulations of competition within the National Basketball League.
“The Wildcats are a successful team both on and off the court, with a strong history of becoming NBL champions while also committing to grassroot basketball clubs through clinics like this,” Carl said.
