Meet Steve Doney, the latest member of the CMTG team, bringing a wealth of industry experience to his new role as CMTG’s Vendor & Client Relationship Manager.
Steve joined the team in June this year and brings more than three decades of industry experience with industry heavyweights such as IBM, Lenovo and Dell.
His career in IT began as a programmer, but it was early on in his career his desire for meaningful customer interactions led him to explore a new role.
“It was only 12 months into my career as a young programmer I had the epiphany that if I kept on this road I would be talking to a screen for a VERY long time,” Steve explains.
“Being the social creature I am, I pivoted to a break fix role in the early days of PCs, where I could directly engage with customers and build meaningful relationships and the journey started from there.”
Over the course of his career, Steve has held various roles, where he honed his expertise and forged valuable partnerships with technology providers, understanding customer needs and delivering tailored solutions.
While he has only just joined CMTG, his relationship with the Company spans more than a decade, influencing the decisions regarding core infrastructure that still forms the foundations of the Company’s offerings today.
“I know what’s in the box, as I had a big hand in putting it there. I know the value it brings to CMTG and their customers alike,” he adds.
“So, when the opportunity came to join the CMTG team, it was an easy decision to make. I’m excited to contribute to CMTG’s journey from the inside and see a bright future ahead.”
Now firmly embedded in the CMTG team, Steve is able to leverage his experience in vendor roles to enhance CMTG’s relationship with its core technology partners.
“It also allows me to connect with CMTG’s customers and understand where our technology offerings can reduce risk and add value to their business,” Steve adds.
As technology evolves at an unprecedented pace, staying ahead of the curve is imperative for any business. When asked about the most significant technological game-changer he has seen across his career, Steve highlights the value of “immutability” and it’s ability to mitigate risk, which sits front of mind across all customer landscapes.
“We offer the capability of being able to lock away regularly taken snapshots of our customer data so tightly that nothing alters it, not us, not the customer, nor ransomware actors or hacking attempts, this is a crucial component of our customer risk mitigation strategy” he explains.
“This functionality offers significant comfort for our clients in knowing, should it be required, CMTG can quickly restore a known good copy of customer data in minutes, not hours or days.”
Steve also notes security should be front of mind for all CMTG’s customers, particularly with the rise in cybercrime seen in recent years.
“Cyber awareness and being mindful of the world we now live in is a duty for us all,” he says.
“Our customers are able to leverage the key technologies we have put in place to protect ourselves, and our customer environments, such as two-factor authentication, tier 1 vendor firewall cyber protection, and immutability as mentioned. It’s our job to embed these offerings seamlessly into our customers operations to add value to their business.”
As he continues to make a difference in the industry, both professionally and personally, Steve reminds us of the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance and finding joy outside the realm of technology.
“I used to enjoy fishing for fish, but now I find myself fishing for coins,” he says.
“It’s a different kind of catch, less smelly, but it definitely takes a toll on the knees! It’s important to have hobbies outside of work to maintain a healthy work-life balance.”
Steve’s journey at CMTG is just beginning, and he is excited to contribute his expertise and build even stronger relationships with both technology partners and customers. With his passion for innovation and dedication to customer satisfaction, He is poised to play a vital role in shaping CMTG’s future.
